CMLA : the 3 principles

Openness

The principle of openness is reflected in the number of host researchers and engineers in CMLA and their diversity in terms of background expertise: mathematics, computer science, physics, biology, mechanics, industry... Openness also refers to the media for promoting research since CMLA contributes to open platforms for collaborative research and produces a significant amount of open source computer programs.

Interaction

Outer interaction is stimulated through the setup of interdisciplinary projects implemented either with long-term collaboration with strategic industrial partners (CEA-DAM, ONR (office of naval research), CNES) materialized with joint labs (the LRC-MESO with the CEA-DAM and the MISS project with the CNES), or with prospective actions involving industrial and academic partners from other fields (calls for public funding like ANR, FUI, Cifre, Digiteo, ..., and also industrial contracts). Inner interaction naturally takes place as the chief scientists regularly meet and exchange ideas about ongoing projects. At CMLA, the taste for interaction also conducts to a strong implication in training programs at all possible stages of higher education and professional career (both at undergraduate and graduate level, and through specialized workshops for experienced researchers or engineers).

Computing

The mathematics developed at CMLA are mathematics tailored for computing. Taking into account constraints related to the context of the application, the nature of hardware or systems architecture, has been a major motivation for orienting modeling and algorithmic choices among the realizations of CMLA. Resultantly, CMLA constantly explores the boundaries of computing technologies as they shape the perspectives for applicability of mathematical algorithms.
