Titre : A microscopic model of viscous friction
Résumé : We present a model in which a heavy body moves in a gas of free particles, assumed in the mean-field approximation. The body interacts with the gas particles via elastic collisions, and it can also be subject to an external force. We show how, in this model, a careful analysis of recollisions between the body and the gas particles allows to establish a power-law approach to the equilibrium velocity for the velocity of the body V(t). We shall discuss the reasons why this result differs from an exponential approach, typical of viscous friction problems.
